(Greenfield) Nodaway Valley opposes North Linn in a Class 2A state quarterfinal matchup on Tuesday night. We’ll have the game on KSOM.
Pregame coverage is scheduled for 8:45 p.m. with the game to tip at 9. The 4th rated Wolverines are 23-0. The 5th rated Lynx are 21-2, their only losses are to top ranked Maquoketa Valley. North Linn is the defending champion. They have a lot of ability to put up big numbers. Nodaway Valley coach Brian Eisbach says, “They are very capable of putting up numbers. Obviously they have a very solid record with their two losses coming against the #1 team in the state. We have some limited film on them an they all seem to shoot it very well. We are going to have to bring our ‘A’ game for sure.”
North Linn has four players averaging 8.7 points per game or better led by freshman Kamryn Kurt at 13.5 points a night. The Lynx beat Hudson by 14, Columbus Catholic by 14, and Bellevue by 18 points on their path to state. It’s their sixth appearance in the last eight years. Nodaway Valley is making their state debut. “The locker room is buzzing. Kids are extremely excited for the opportunity to represent our communities and their family and our school. We are trying to stay focused on the things we think we are going to need to do to be successful on Tuesday night. At the same time we are reminding the kids they need to enjoy this and their families need to enjoy this. We’ve had some really good practices and are excited for the opportunity.”
With that said, the team isn’t happy just to get there. “From top to bottom all of these kids are looking at this as just because we reached a goal of making it to state, we aren’t done yet.” He says, “The entire locker room and the entire staff is focused on keeping it going.”
The Wolverines ousted East Sac County, South Central Calhoun, and AHSTW along the tournament trail with their closest call being a 61-58 regional semifinal win in overtime. Maddax DeVault leads the way at 24 points per game. Freshman Lindsey Davis is averaging 13.7 per contest.
