(Audubon) Students in Audubon have been celebrating National FFA Week this week.
KSOM/KS95.7 News caught up with Audubon FFA Officers Clayton Morgan (President), Tyler Tessman (Vice President), Matt Brinkman (Secretary), and Madison Vorm (Sentinal) to discuss the week. Friday is college apparel day. “We’re doing college apparel day and we are having our fifth annual truck sale. We just dress up in Iowa or Iowa State gear or whatever college that we care to do.”
They’ve also had Toy Tractor Day, Hawaiian Day, and Official Dress Day this week. “Probably our favorite is official dress and we get to wear that and show it off to the rest of the school. We had about 60 members where their official dress in the high school.”
FFA is an activity they are all proud to be a part of. “It really brings out some leadership in all of us. For a few of us that’s our only extra-curricular activity and being a part of something that really brings together our community and school makes us all proud. We enjoy having that opportunity to connect the community to our high school and do something good.”
Communication is one of the many skills that FFA has helped develop, “Some skills and traits that we’ve all gained since we’ve all been involved since 8th grade are our public speaking skills and being able to interact with people more easily.”
An additional highlight of FFA Week has been presenting Advisor Brittany Elmquist with a Golden Owl Award as a 2020-21 Iowa Ag Educator of the Year Honoree.
