(Walnut) Several area fire departments responded to a hog barn fire northeast of Walnut this morning.
Walnut Fire Chief Justen Tooley said they were called to the fire at 52763 Whippoorwill Road shortly after 8:00 a.m.
“When we got there the roof had already collapsed on half of the building and the other half had fire in it. There was approximately 100 hogs in that half. The other half had been emptied either this week or end of last week,” said Tooley. Most of the hogs were killed in the fire.
Firemen were on scene until around Noon.
The cause of the fire is unknown at this time.
The Avoca, Hancock, Atlantic, Marne and Elk Horn Fire Department assisted the Walnut Fire Department.
