(Greenfield) Coming up on KSOM Tuesday night in Class 2A girls postseason basketball it’ll be Nodaway Valley hosting East Sac County. Pregame coverage comes your way at around 6:50 with a 7:00 tip.
4th rated and 20-0 Nodaway Valley has their sites set on a state tourney berth. Their first step in the process comes Tuesday against a 9-11 East Sac team that ousted IKM-Manning 75-69 in overtime on Saturday. “They are athletic. They play in a very, very tough conference. I’m pretty impressed with all five of their starters. They are similar to us in a lot of ways. They have a couple of kids that can fill it up and do it in a variety of ways. It could be a pretty big challenge and we are looking forward to it.”
That’s Wolverine head coach Brian Eisbach who oversees the highest scoring team in Class 2A. They’ve accomplished some key goals already, but the biggest ambitions are all still ahead. “We’ve ended the regular season rated #4 and that’s awesome. It’s a testament to how hard the kids have worked, but at this point in the season it’s win or go home. We feel like we aren’t done yet. The kids have maintained a bit of a chip on their shoulder and embraced the target that’s on our back.”
18 of the team’s 20 wins have been by 10 points or more, but Lenox tested them in the regular season finale. It was a game they pulled out 54-52, but being challenged should be a benefit in the long run. “Absolutely that was a good thing for us.” Eisbach says he turned to his assistant coach Amy Sivadge with a minute left to play and said, “I don’t ever want this to end.” He says, “It was great and the best part was our kids never freaked out or got mad at each other.”
Maddax DeVault enters tourney play as Class 2A’s 2nd leading scorer with an average of 23.6 points per game and Lexi Shike leads the state in rebounding with an average of 13.3 per game. Tuesday’s winner meets either ACGC or South Central Calhoun on Friday.
