(Des Moines) Iowa House District 21 Representative Tom Moore said the Government Oversight Committee heard testimony from Iowa’s public universities this week regarding Free Speech on Iowa Campuses.
Moore said legislators on both sides of the aisle were concerned about recent events where universities discriminated against students expressing conservative viewpoints. He said the universities were apologetic, and it was clear that reforms are needed. Moore said Iowa Republicans will work to ensure that universities are a place for education and free expression, and not a place for indoctrination and double-standards.
Moore said the HF 228, Parental Choice for Open Enrollment, was considered Tuesday night and it passed the House. This bill removed voluntary diversity plans as a reason to deny open enrollment. Now every student in Iowa can have the same opportunity to open enroll.
