(Atlantic) Skylar Handlos scored 24-points to lead Atlantic past Red Oak 71-50 in a boy’s Hawkeye Ten Conference Basketball game at Red Oak On Tuesday night.
The Trojans led 13-9 at the end of the first quarter. Ethan Williams connected on two consecutive close-range shots, Craig Alan Becker converted on a three-point play, and Ethan Sturm, Handlos, and Garrett Reynolds each pitched in two points. Red Oak’s nine points all came from behind the arc off the hands of Garrett Couse, Max DeVries, and Baylor Bergren.

The Trojans led 28-20 at the break and opened up a 48-33 lead at the end of three-quarters. Handlos scored nine straights to lead the Trojans on a 9-2 run to start the second half. The senior ended up with 13 of his 24 points in the third frame before securing the 71`-50 win over the Tigers.
Besides Handlos’ 24 points. Grant Sturm scored 10, Ethan Williams, nine, Keaton Juhl came off the bench and pitched in eight-points, Craig Alan Becker, five, Reynolds, five, Dayton Templeton, four, and Ethan Sturm, Caden Andersen, and Colton Rasmussen chipped two-points each.
Baylor Bergren led the Tigers with 19-points, Max DeVries, 10, Garrett Couse and Braden Johnson, five points each, Kaden Johnson, four, Ryan Johnson added three, and Hunter Gilliland, and Nicholas Fouts, each chipped in two.
The Trojans go to (3-1) in Hawkeye Ten Conference play and (4-5) overall. Red Oak falls to (3-4), in the Conference standings, and (5-6) overall.
Atlantic hosts Harlan on Thursday night. Red Oak travels to Glenwood.
