Thomas Grant Rogers, the son of John William and Mary Agnes (Hully) Rogers, was born June 5, 1932, in Omaha, NE. He died January 12, 2021, in Council Bluffs, IA, at the age of 88 years, 7 months, and 7 days.
Tom attended country school until he moved in to Griswold at the age of ten. He graduated from Griswold High School with the class of 1951. In 1952, he was drafted into the Army. After completing basic training, he was united in marriage to Mary Lou Norris, on May 13, 1953, at St. John’s Church south of Lyman. He was then shipped to Korea where he served as a fireboat captain in Pusan Harbor. After being honorably discharged in 1954, he returned to Griswold, where he began farming and raising livestock. Tom continued farming until 2002, when he retired and he and Mary Lou moved to Atlantic. They moved to Council Bluffs three years ago.
Tom was a member of the Griswold United Methodist Church and Griswold American Legion Post #508. He had served on the Cass County Fair Board. He enjoyed fishing, bowling, and going to livestock sales.
Tom is preceded in death by his parents; his grandson Matthew Rogers; his son-in-law Roger Dreager; and his brother-in-law Theron Shafer.
He is survived by his wife Mary Lou Rogers of Council Bluffs, IA; his children: Steven William Rogers of Griswold, IA; James Thomas Rogers and wife Patricia of Griswold, IA, Linda Susan Warner and husband Robert of Council Bluffs, IA; and Carol Jane Burns and husband Jonathon of Castle Rock, CO, his grandchildren: Grant, Bethany, Lindsey, Christine, Curtis, Rosalie, and Charles; his great grandchildren: Caden, Isabella, Mackenzie, and Jaxon; and his sister Betty Shafer of Grant, IA. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 16, 2021, at 2:00 PM at the Griswold United Methodist Church. An open visitation will be held at the Rieken Duhn Funeral Home in Griswold on Friday from 9:00 AM until 7:00 PM. The family will not be present at any specific time. Interment will be in the Pleasant Township Cemetery. Rieken Duhn Funeral Home in Griswold is assisting the family.
