(Avoca) Jaci Christensen had 24 points and 12 rebounds for Audubon in a tight road victory on Tuesday. The Wheelers avenged a prior 10-point loss with a 52-49 triumph.
The lead changed hands four times in the fourth quarter, but Christensen scored six points in a key span of the fourth that saw the visitors go from trailing 43-40 to leading 46-45. She went 9/16 from the field in the game and made all six of her free throw tries.
Aleah Hermansen added 11 points for Audubon which has won six of its last seven games. Kaitlyn Nielsen notched 10 points to go along with nine rebounds. Audubon trailed much of the night, but kept rallying back.
After a high scoring first quarter, both offenses struggled in the second. AHSTW extended the lead to as many as eight points in the first half, but Audubon closed on a 5-0 stretch to get it within 25-22 at the break.
Claire Denning’s big third quarter helped AHSTW maintain the advantage out of the locker room. She had ten of her team high 21 in the third, but Audubon’s Sienna Albertsen buried a three pointer right before the horn to put Audubon in front 38-37 going to the fourth.
A Kailey Jones three pointer gave AHSTW the lead early in the 4th at 40-38, but Audubon didn’t go away. It’s the fourth straight win for the Wheelers, now 6-5 overall.
AHSTW drops to 8-5. In addition to 21 from Denning, Kailey Jones had 13 points and 12 rebounds. The Lady Vikes shot just 22.7% (5/22) from three point range. Four of their five makes beyond the arc were in the first half.
