(Avoca) AHSTW has shown flashes of great play, but wants to put the pieces together on a more consistent basis. The 8-4 Lady Vikes will be in action against 5-5 Audubon Tuesday. We’ll have play-by-play of the game on KSOM.
AHSTW coach Jill Vanderhoof says her team needs to play a complete game. “The first half of the season we were able to play our first two quarters really well and then we would kind of fade off. I don’t know if we got tired or our focus was not there but that that second half we would struggle a little bit. In the second half of the season we’ve been playing our third and fourth quarters really well. So being able to start and finish as strong and focused as we want to the whole game is going to be a really big aspect for us.”
AHSTW has downed Stanton and Tri-Center in their last two outings. They outscored Stanton 31-15 in the fourth quarter for a comeback win. Tuesday night they’ll face an Audubon squad that they beat 51-41 earlier this season. Vanderhoof says they’ll have to rebound well against the Wheelers. “Keeping second opportunities limited for them will be a big one. They crash the boards hard, they go after it, and are very physical.”
Three seniors are turning in banner seasons for the Lady Vikes. Kailey Jones recorded her 600th career rebound last week. She’s averaging 18.3 points, 12.7 rebounds, 2.5 steals, and 1.7 blocks per game while shooting 52.1% from the field and 80% from the free throw line. Claire Denning is putting up 15.7 points, 4.9 rebounds, 2.8 assists, and 4.6 steals per game. Claire Harris averages 12.1 points, 2.5 rebounds, 2.9 assists, and 3.7 steals.
