(Nodaway) Iowa Senators and representatives convene today for the 2021 State Legislative Session. Iowa State District 11 Senator Tom Shipley from Nodaway says this year’s session will look different due to COVID-19.
“Our clerks will be located in another area of the Capitol,” said Shipley. “Our committee meetings will be held in the chamber to allow for social distancing.
“Our main goal is to have everything as transparent as possible,” stated Shipley. “Committee meetings will be more transparent than before because they will be live-streamed, just like when we’re in session. People can go online and watch it the entire time. This now includes committee meetings.”
He says sub-committee meetings will be held in one room, and those wishing to provide input on the bills will do so remotely.
Senator Shipley says he hopes to get through the session as safely as possible, and he believes there is a good plan in place to do that. However, he says there is no guarantee.
