(Greenfield) Nodaway Valley cleared a big hurdle on Tuesday and has another in their sights on Friday.
The Wolverine girls basketball team beat Mount Ayr this week to stay undefeated and up next is 8-1 Lenox. Coach Brian Eisbach previews the Tigers which are led by TJ Stoaks averaging better than 15 points and six steals per game. “Very athletic. Obviously they have TJ back this year and she’s a heck of a ball player. She’s a very similar player to Lexi Shike for us. That’s one of those games where fundamentals are going to be huge for us. Just like normal, we have to be able to rebound and box out on every possession. We’ll have to be able to close out hard as they have some kids that can fill it up.”
Nodaway Valley put themselves alone in first place in the Pride of Iowa Conference standings with their 64-44 win against Mount Ayr on Tuesday. “It was a big win for us. We knew Mount Ayr was going to be up for us, they always are. They are well coached. They know how to win and we feel like we are still trying to put some pieces together. It was a tight game to begin with and we shook off some rust and battled some second half foul trouble. Our kids are excited, but know there are still things we need to improve on.”
Three players average in double figures scoring for Nodaway Valley with Maddax DeVault at 22.4 points, Lindsey Davis at 12.4, and Lexi Shike at 10.9. DeVault and Davis each average over four steals per game and Shike is the team’s leading rebounder at 12.9 boards per contest. The latest IGHSAU rankings have Nodaway Valley at #5 in Class 2A.
