(Area) A Special Traffic Enforcement program is underway through January 1st.
Shelby McCreedy, Iowa State Patrol Trooper and Public Information Officer, said with this special traffic enforcement program there will be an increase in law enforcement on roadways.
McCreedy said statistically the Christmas holiday has actually been one of the safest holidays we’ve had over the last five years.
McCreedy said the best advice they can give to individuals to maintain safe holidays is to celebrate with a plan.
McCreedy said there have been 315 fatalities so far this year and 44 percent of those 315 have been unrestrained. The last time Iowa was under 300 fatalities was 1925.
