(Atlantic) The Atlantic School Board approved remote learning guidelines for the second semester at a special meeting on Wednesday night. There are approximately 90-95 remote learners, with around 40 students considered non-medical.
Atlantic Schools Superintendent Steve Barber stated; while some students are excelling in the remote learning setting, it’s not working for other students in the district. For example, some students aren’t participating in zoom meetings and not completing the work. Barber presented the following guidelines to the board for students, not “cutting the mustard” in a non-medical remote learning situation.
The board approved Barber’s recommendation requiring all students to watch live instructor/or recorded videos and submit work back to their teacher for grading. Attendance will be recorded by the assigned work being turned into the instructor for grading, even if they attend zoom classes.
The new guidelines also state zoom links will be sent via email as necessary when students need to participate in the live class. This could be daily. Students are asked to follow the specific course/grade-level expectations. This will be shared via Google Classroom/SeeSaw.
If a non-medical remote learner fails a class during the 1st semester, the student will be required to return to on-site learning for the 2nd semester.
Atlantic Schools Superintendent Steve Barber set the following criteria for remote learning for the 2nd semester:
*If a non-medical remote learner fails a class during the 1st semester, the students will be required to return to on-site learning for the 2nd semester.
*Failure to complete the required instruction expectations will result in an unexcused absence. This applies to all remote-learners (medical or non-medical)
*A student earning a D or F (or N in early elementary) at a grade check will result in a meeting with the building principal to create a success plan for the student’s remote learning.
*If, after the meeting with the building principal and a two-week probationary period, progress still lacks for the remote learner, the student must return to on-site learning.
In other business. The school board approved the current temporary face mask mandate through January 13, 2021, which is the next scheduled school board meeting.
