(Atlantic) The Atlantic City Council Wednesday night voted 5 to 2 to pass a resolution establishing a nonprofit housing rehabilitation Revolving Loan Fund with a cap of $100,000.
The City adopted a resolution on September 18, 2019 in support of a proposed partnership with SHIFT ATL for housing rehabilitation. The resolution offered general endorsement of the partnership in addition to financial support, but at the time they felt that a specific monetary commitment to the organization was not yet in either party’s best interest.
Alexsis Fleener told the Council that now that their project on the old Downtowner building has started SHIFT ATL is ready to activate the housing part of SHIFT ATL.
Fleener said the home, located at 608 Hazel, is in good condition structurally, but it is not move in ready and it needs significant rehab.
Fleener said they were requesting $65,000 for the purchase price of the home.
Kathy Somers voted no because she had issues with the language in the resolution.
Somers also questioned what would happen if other nonprofits wanted to apply besides SHIFT ATL. City Administrator John Lund said the fund will still be available for other people applying.
After much back and forth discussion, Mayor Dave Jones explained what the resolutions states.
Gerald Brink also voted no due to not agreeing with the language in the resolution.
