(Stanton) Griswold’s three point shooting kept them in the game, but Stanton held the Tiger’s at arm’s length and pulled away in the fourth for a 69-43 road victory Tuesday. The Vikings were led by 27 points from Carter Johnson.
It was a 14-10 Stanton advantage at the end of the first and the visitors dialed up the pressure to start the 2nd quarter. It paid off with a 10-0 spurt to build the lead to 14 points. Griswold made a couple of comeback attempts, closing to within 26-21 in the 2nd quarter and 36-32 in the 3rd quarter. Stanton responded well each time the Tigers started to build the momentum including an 8-0 stretch to end the 3rd quarter which pushed the lead to 44-32.
Griswold cut the deficit to single digits early in the 4th, but a 13-0 Stanton surge put the game away. In addition to 27 from Johnson, Stanton had Quentin Thornburg and Jack Roberts each in double figures with 14 and 12, respectively.
Griswold got the majority of their points from three point range. In fact, six of the team’s eight field goals in the 2nd half were from beyond the arc. Adam Houser and Kamron Brownlee led the outside shooting and each finished with 12 points. Jayden Amend scored nine points and Colton Turner was big on the glass with 10 rebounds.
