Kenneth (June) Hugh Buttler Jr. was born on October 3, 1932, and died Dec 3, 2020, at The New Homestead in Guthrie Center. He was 88 years old.
Kenneth was born to Kenneth Buttler Sr. and Marjorie Rumelhart in Guthrie Center, Iowa. He was the oldest of eight children. Kenneth lived in Guthrie Center and Exira, Iowa when growing up.
On June 12. 1956 Kenneth married Arliss Mae Stofer in Omaha, Nebraska. To this union 4 children were born, Rick, Lela, and infant twins who died at birth.
Kenneth was a member of the First Christian Church of Guthrie Center, Iowa, the Guthrie Center Utility Board, and a member of the Omar B. Shearer American Legion Post #124. He served in the Army during the Korean War and spent 20 years in the Navy from 1961 until 1981. Upon his retirement, he ran K. H. Buttler Construction until 2002 when he sold it to his son Rick.
Kenneth lost his wife of 62 years on September 12, 2018. He is survived by his son Rick (Martha) Buttler of Guthrie Center, and his daughter Lela (Dean) Ford of Knoxville, Tennessee. Also, surviving Kenneth is his five Grandchildren; Chris Buttler, Kimberly Buttler, Stacy Peterson, Patricia Kyle, and Michael Ford who will deeply miss their Grandpa. He also has 5 Great-grandchildren, Kennedy and Kylie Young, Cain Squires, Kye Buttler, and Boden Peterson. Also, surviving Kenneth are his siblings Phyllis Kline, Judy Shipley, Bill Buttler, Kathy Coons, Jerry Buttler, Tom Buttler, and Mary Buttler.
June was a very colorful person. June loved to visit and he enjoyed telling stories and reminiscing. He didn’t know a stranger and could strike up a conversation with anyone. He had an excellent memory and could recall facts and information that very few could.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife.
Memorial services will be at 10:00 am Saturday, December 19, 2020, at The First Christian Church in Guthrie Center. Please respect the family’s wishes and keep memorial services to family only. Burial of cremated remains will immediately follow the memorial services at the Union Cemetery in Guthrie Center. All are invited to attend the committal services at the cemetery.
