(Area) Iowa’s Shotgun Deer Season opens Saturday.
December 5th starts Shotgun Season 1. Bryan Hayes with the Iowa DNR says, “During the two shotgun deer seasons we estimate about 120,000 hunters will participate. It’s the biggest part of the harvest. Roughly half of the harvest will take place over the next three weeks as we run through those shotgun deer seasons.”
So far with the bow season harvest is ahead of last year and the population has been described as ‘good’. “Based on numbers seen so far through our bow season and early muzzleloader season, we are on our way to harvesting 100,000 deer this year if not 120,000 deer.”
Hayes says the deer hunters do a lot of work for managing the deer herd and the DNR encourages everyone to be safe.
