(Audubon) Brayden Lund and Kyle Sternberg combined for 49 points as the AHSTW Vikings downed Audubon on Tuesday by a 68-47 final. The sophomore duo carried the load while the team’s leading returning scorer Raydden Grobe was slowed with foul trouble.
Sternberg’s three-pointer at the end of the first half pushed the visitor’s advantage to 40-25. It capped off a dominant stretch for AHSTW to close the 2nd quarter. They relied heavily on a strong inside game from Lund with 13 of his game high 27 points coming in the frame. The lead changed hands a few times early in the 2nd quarter and Audubon was within 20-19 before AHSTW muscled their way ahead.
AHSTW scored eight of the first ten points in the 3rd quarter to blow the game open. Audubon did show some fight and at one point closed the gap to 14. But as the Wheelers appeared to be flipping the momentum in the game, AHSTW went on a 6-0 run to get the margin back up to 20. Ethan Klocke scored a team high 20 points for Audubon, but picked up his 3rd and 4th fouls in quick succession which helped AHSTW regain control.
Lund’s 27 points and Sternberg’s 22 points are both career highs. Despite playing very few minutes, Grobe finished with 11. Cole Scheffler had eight points. AHSTW moves to 2-0. Audubon is 0-2 on the season. Ethan Klocke scored 15 of his 20 in the first half. Jackson Deist added nine.
