Lenore L (Bailey) Mikkelsen of Guthrie Center, daughter of Forrest and Nina Bailey, was born at her parent’s farm home on July 5, 1927, and passed away at the New Homestead in Guthrie Center on November 24, 2020, at the age of 93. She grew up on the family farm and graduated from Guthrie Center High School in 1944. She was united in marriage to Wilson Mikkelsen on May 1, 1947, at the Christian Church in Guthrie Center. They were blessed with four children, Timothy Bruce, Cynthia Ann, Nancy Sue, and Paul Kevin. They farmed for a few years and moved to Guthrie Center in 1954. They tragically lost Timmy in 1956.
Wilson and Lenore owned and operated “Wilson’s Clothing and Shoes,” a retail store in downtown Guthrie Center from 1960-1975. Lenore was the bookkeeper for Wilson’s Clothing After they sold the store, Lenore worked for the Guthrie County Hospital as a bookkeeper and payroll officer until her retirement.
Lenore loved her family dearly and enjoyed cooking for them, making quilts for them and spending time together whenever possible. She loved all kinds of flowers, was an avid reader, consummate card and game player, enjoyed her computer, putting puzzles together, bird watching, and canning and preserving the produce from Wilson’s prized gardens.
Lenore was a long time member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Guthrie Center. She loved her church family and enjoyed her “Out to Lunch Bunch, being a member of the Deborah Society and participating in Bible studies. She was a member of the Guthrie Center Women’s Club for several decades. She was a good neighbor in thought, word and deed to all she knew.
