(Anita) The CAM boys basketball team won 19 games a year ago and returns four of their top seven scorers.
One of the top priorities for the Cougars is winning the conference after finishing second last year. But competing atop the RVC is just the start of what they’d like to accomplish. “With us we always want to contend for the conference. Which I think we have a group of boys to be up towards the top and see what we can do. I asked some of the boys what their goals were and Lane Spieker was one of the few that stepped up and he said win conference and Wells Fargo. Those are lofty goals, but that’s alright. We want lofty goals.”
Coach Nick Hodges has Ethan Arp, Connor McKee, Lane Spieker, and Colby Rich all coming back after solid seasons last year. “Those guys are going to be four big pieces because they have a lot of experience coming back between them. We are going to see Cade Ticknor, Joe Kauffman, along with Wyatt and Walker Gettler two seniors that have grown and improved.”
One of CAM’s biggest strengths last year was in their balanced scoring. Despite graduating Ben Tibken, Nate Hensley, and Jacob Holste they still want to keep that scoring depth. “I expect some of these new guys that’ll see increased minutes to do the same. I really think we can be balanced. We’ve preached sharing the ball. If we share the ball and have a lot of guys between 7-11 points on average a team can’t focus in on one or two guys to stop.”
