(Griswold) On October 7, the Griswold School Board adopted a mask mandate with the hopes of lifting it in December. On Monday, the Griswold School Board voted to extend it.
“Obviously now is not the right time to lift it, and since the virus spiked recently we decided to review some of those things now,” said Henrichs. “So the board elected to continue the current mask mandate until further notice.”
Dave Henrichs says this means students are required to wear masks in the school building from 7:45 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. He admits that so far the school system has steered clear of a widespread outbreak.
“I would really like to says it’s because of our mitigation practices, but I don’t necessarily think that’s the only reason,” said Henrichs. “Yes-the custodians and teaching staff are doing a good job of sanitizing, but I think it has a lot to do with what our staff has elected to do during their free time.”
Since the start of the school year, three elementary students, and six middle/high school students, and nine staff have tested positive for the virus.
Henrichs also reported all junior high sports are suspended through December 10, according to Governor Reynold’s latest proclamation.
