(Elk Horn) The Exira-EHK School Board put a mask mandate in effect via unanimous vote on Monday.
Superintendent Trevor Miller says the district’s action extends beyond the announcement made Monday by Governor Kim Reynolds. “After a discussion they ended up making a motion, seconded it, and voted 7-0 ours. The Governor’s is only for 30 days, but our is at least through January 18th.”
Miller says the goal is to keep as many kids in school for as many days as possible and wearing masks is the best way to ensure this. “It was bigger when it was a discussion item last month, but with the Governor putting a state mask mandate I think they knew that was how they had to go.”
Elsewhere the board approved several personnel moves including the resignation of Rick Nielsen from Instrumental Music after over 40 years in education. Other resignations include Andrew Nulle (Assistant Volleyball) and Doug Newton (Junior High Football). Hires include Trent Megchelsen and Alex Hansen for Junior High boys basketball along with Andrea Nulle and Courtney Peppers for Junior High Girls Basketball.
