(Atlantic) The fourth annual AtlantiCash Holiday promotion held at the Atlantic Area Chamber of Commerce this past Saturday didn’t last long.
Atlantic Area Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Bailey Smith says the first year, the Chamber sold $8,000 in eight minutes, and since the inaugural promotion, they increased that amount by $5,000. This year the Chamber had $25,000 available and sold it out in 23 minutes. “It’s exciting to know people understand the importance of shopping local, especially with everything that’s been going on this year,” said Smith. “Our local businesses have been struggling, so I am hoping people will use this money to do their Christmas shopping locally and continue to support our local businesses after the holidays and beyond.”
Smith said four years ago; they were looking for ways to promote shopping locally to generate local options sales tax revenue to help fund the Street Department, Park and Rec. and other improvements to the City of Atlantic. “We wanted to figure out how we could not only increase that number but support our local businesses and keep them in town,” explained Smith. “So we came up with AtlanticCash where people can purchase $100.00 for 20-percent off with the stipulation it must be spent in Atlantic.”
The money came in packs of $100.00 purchased at a 20-percent discount on a first-come, first purchased basis.
