(Atlantic) The Annual Grand Lighting Ceremony, sponsored by Precision Concrete Services, Atlantic Municipal Utilities, and Dance Atlantic, will be held this Thursday, November 19th, at 5:30 PM in Downtown Atlantic.
“Atlantic is one of Travel Iowa’s best places to celebrate the Christmas Season, and Grand Lighting is a big reason why. There are over 200,000 lights strung throughout the trees on Chestnut Street as well as City Park that helps create this magical scenery for everyone to enjoy,” Bailey Smith, Executive Director at the Atlantic Area Chamber of Commerce, said.
Attendees must park along Chestnut Street and remain in their vehicles at all times. Gathering on the street and sidewalk will not be allowed. Turn your radios to KS 95.7 for a live broadcast with Santa and help him a countdown to turn on the lights! Santa will ride up Chestnut Street on his Fire Truck following the lighting and be in his Cabin from 6 – 7:30 PM. The lighting will also be live-streamed on the Chamber’s Facebook page for those who wish to enjoy it from home.
“We worked hard with Cass County Public Health to make sure we could offer this tradition while keeping everyone safe. With updated State mandates, adhering to the rules in place for this event is really important. We know it’s not ideal to have to stay in your vehicle, but we’re thrilled that by making this small adjustment, we’re able to offer this event. Our lights always bring a sense of magic, and I think we can all agree we deserve some magic this year,” mentioned Smith.
Santa’s Cabin will also be a little different this year. All attendees over the age of two must wear a mask when entering the Cabin. Children will have a seating area where they can sit and tell Santa what they want for Christmas. Children will not be allowed to sit on Santa’s lap this year. A social distance photo may be taken before exiting the Cabin. Social distancing will be mandated while waiting in line.
“Santa has a global gig, so we’re taking every measure necessary to keep him healthy to continue seeing every child this season. Again, we’re so thankful to Cass County Public Health for walking us through this process, ensuring children and Santa are safe as well as ensuring we can offer this magical experience,” Smith stated.
Santa will be in his Cabin every Saturday from 1:30 – 3:30 PM beginning November 28th and ending December 19th. He will be in his Cabin every Thursday from 5:30 – 7 PM beginning December 3rd and ending December 17th. Santa’s Cabin is sponsored by Atlantic Rotary Club, Atlantic Dental Center, and The Franklin Market/The Picker’s Parlor.
