(Atlantic) Republican Bernard Pettinger defeated Democrat Russell Joyce for the District 5 Supervisor seat in Cass County. Pettinger received 1,000 votes, to Joyce’s 443.
Pettinger is no stranger to filling leadership roles. The rural Anita man served on the Hospital Board, Secretary of the Co-op Board, is a former School Board President, former Fair Board President, and has served on the Extension Council. Pettinger ran on the platform of fiscal responsibility.
Russell Joyce retired as Director of CADCO in 2018. Before that, he had served as a County Supervisor.
The other contested race was for the Ag Extension Council, where five candidates running for four seats. Darrin Petty, 3,847, Jody Steffen, 3,385, Marcy Jo Dorsey, 3,220, and Curt Rush, 2,854 were voted in. Alice C. Williams garnered 2,133 votes.
Incumbent Dale Sunderman running unopposed for County Auditor received 6,186 votes, Incumbent County Sheriff Darby McLaren, running uncontested received 6,265 votes, Incumbent County Auditor Vanessa Strazdas, earned 5,420 votes, Incumbent running uncontested for District 1 Supervisor Stephen S. Green garnered 1,028 votes, and Incumbent District 4 Supervisor Steve Baier running unopposed received 1,260 votes.
Dan Schrier defeated Keith Nelson for Union County Trustee, 53-13. Delmar South running unopposed for Union County Trustee received 102 votes.
Leanne Pellett, 4.376, Linda L. Pelzer, 4,209, and Ned Brown, 3,890, ran unopposed for Hospital Trustees.
Three candidates running unopposed for County Agricultural Extension Council are Curt Behrends, 4,420 votes; Chase Wheatley, 3,919, and Ray Wilson received 3,749 votes.
