(Greenfield) Nodaway Valley has a good core returning from a Pride of Iowa Conference Championship team last year. The team finished with 20 wins and three losses.
Coach Brian Eisbach points out this team will be motivated by their 2nd round postseason exit at the hands of and AHSTW team that they had defeated in the regular season. “A bitter ending to a good season. We had our banquet on that Friday and then the following Tuesday school is done for the year unbeknownst to anyone at the time because of Covid. I think everyone is looking forward to trying to build on where we were at last year.”
Seniors Lexi Shike, Macy Kuhns, and Corinne Bond along with junior Maddax DeVault represent a ton of the experience that returns. Those players will make up the core of the team, but there are several others capable of making an impact. “Some other juniors that could really play a role this year Whitney Lamb and Terrin Gettler. We have one sophomore and then seven freshmen that are coming off of an undefeated 8th grade campaign will be looking to get in the lineup so I think things are looking up.”
Rebounding is one area they certainly want to improve on from last season. “Watched a lot of replays of that last game and what was glaring was our ineffectiveness at rebounding. That’s going to be a big point of contention for us early on in the season. If you can rebound the ball that allows you to do a lot of other things like run the floor in transition.”
Eisbach centers his 3rd season at the helm which means any adjustment period is in the rear view mirror. Taking a look at some of the leaders from last season that return…
Maddax DeVault 18.1 points, 4.1 rebounds, 2 assists, 2.1 steals
Lexi Shike 10.6 points, 8.7 rebounds 2.1 steals
Corinne Bond 6 points, 8.4 rebounds, 2.1 steals
Macy Kuhns 3.3 points, 3.2 assists, 1.5 steals
