(Atlantic) COVID-19 didn’t stop the Atlantic Community School District from connecting parents and teachers this past week.
Atlantic School’s Superintendent Steve Barber appearing on his weekly school report on 95.7 F.M., KS95, said COVID has created a lot of changes for many reasons this school year. One change was conducting parent-teacher conferences with the use of technology. “We invite parents to come in and check on their child’s progress during a time period and this is one opportunity,” said Barber.
Barber says the district’s needs assessment talks about the need for parents to be involved in their students’ education and he admits there was concern about conducting the conferences in this manner. “One thing we observed through some of our changes, is the fact that parents are more engaged in their learning,” stated Barber. “Because of our tech-platforms and the ability to meet with people face-to-face, has been positive.”
Barber says the conferences were held via zoom, and some by phone. But all-in-all he was encouraged by the amount of participation.
