(Anita) CAM put together a dominant playoff win Friday night to advance to the 8-Player quarterfinals. The 4th rated Cougars stay undefeated with a 62-6 decision over Lamoni. The Demons end their year at 7-3.
CAM’s defense limited Lamoni to 23 yards on their first 16 plays and took a shutout deep into the 2nd half. The Cougar offense scored on their opening possession with a four play, 62 yard waltz down the field and never looked back. Lane Spieker did all the damage on the ground in the first series on his way to a 202 yard rushing night. Spieker had a hand in four touchdowns with two rushing, one receiving, and one passing. His three receptions spanned 39 yards. He’s gone over 1,500 rushing yards on the season.
Colby Rich was the main cog in the passing game. He caught seven balls for 136 yards and four scores. If there was any doubt in regards to CAM’s ability to throw the football, Ethan Arp and Lane Spieker did their best to squelch it. Arp was 7/7 for 108 yards and four scores. Spieker completed all three of his throws for 67 yards and a TD.
9-0 CAM will oppose #10 Fremont-Mills next Friday night. Despite being in the same district, these two teams did not meet in the regular season. The Knights have a 6-1 record with their only loss being against Central Valley, NE. The Cougars lost a one possession game to eventual state runner-up Audubon in the quarterfinal round last season.
