(Fort Dodge) Two girls cross country teams that went back and forth all season finished right next to each other in Fort Dodge at year’s end. Glenwood raced to a 6th place finish Friday at the state meet while Harlan come up with a 7th place showing.
The Rams were led by Emma Hughes in 40th while Lauren Hughes came in 57th and Erin Schultz was 61st. They scored 192 points.
Harlan’s team total was 210. For the Cyclones Brecken VanBaale capped off her career with a 30th place run. Other scoring runners for Harlan were Kaia Bieker 31st, Liv Freund 37th, Abi Albertsen 90th, and Olivia Anderson 106th.
Among the individual qualifiers from the area were Creston’s Braelyn Baker and Atlantic’s Taylor McCreedy. Baker snagged a 14th place finish in 19:32. McCreedy ran 50th in a time of 20:32.
Ballard won the team championship with 66 points. They had the first and second place individual with Shewaye Johnson followed by Paityn Noe. Both are sophomores and each finished over forty-five seconds faster than any other competitor.
