(Anita) An Atlantic teen suffered a serious head injury after falling out of the back of a pickup truck near Anita on Sunday afternoon.
The Iowa State Patrol says the accident happened at around 2:40 p.m. According to the report, a northbound 2007 Chevy Silverado pickup driven by a 17-year old male, also from Atlantic, was traveling northbound on 740th Street near Anita when the 17-year old male fell out of the back of the truck.
Cass County Rescue transported the teen to the University of Nebraska Medical Center. The accident remains under investigation. The Cass County Sheriff’s Deputies and Anita Fire and Rescue assisted the Iowa State Patrol at the scene.
The Iowa State Patrol did not release the teen’s name; however, a social media post by the teen’s father, Dustin McLaren, identified the male as Steele McLaren, a senior at Atlantic High School, and member of the Atlantic football team. A prayer group was also set up on social media for Steele as well, which has received a massive amount of support from community members and others around the region.
