(Woodbine) 6-1 Woodbine travels to 4-1 Fremont-Mills Friday night in a matchup that will feature two Division I commits.
This 8-player matchup has the makings of a dandy. Woodbine is led by future South Dakota Coyote Layne Pryor. Fremont-Mills counters with Nebraska bound Seth Malcom. Woodbine coach Dustin Crook says Pryor is everything you could ask for on and off the field. His production speaks for itself. He’s moved from catching the football to running the football and has averaged over 200 yards from scrimmage this season. Last week alone he had five carries for 146 yards and three scores plus five catches for 99 yards and three TD’s in an 84-0 win. “You have a division one athlete you want to get the ball in his hands a much as possible. We still split him out and move him around he still has that skill set and he’s picking up running back fairly well. Just all around he’s a great kid even if you take away the athletics and football.”
Coach Crook has a lot of respect for top ten rated Fremont-Mills, but Woodbine won’t be intimidated. “One of the top team in 8-man the past ten years. They have good tradition, very well coached, and they have good kids down there. We look forward to the challenge. We feel that we match up fairly well.”
Crook doesn’t expect the Knight’s to have any lingering effects from their three weeks off earlier this season. As we mentioned, the Tigers won’t be intimidated. They know what they can do well and are confident in their abilities against anybody. “Our offensive line has really come along this year and with Layne at running back we’ve really established the running game. That’s helped us to fit the personnel with the kids that we have after graduating the all-time leading passer in 8-Player Wyatt Pryor. On the defensive side our kids have grown on understanding different concepts and being able to be more aggressive.” He says Pryor and Dylan Hoefer get the job done on the defensive side of the ball.
This is Woodbine’s highest win total since 2010. Friday’s game gives the Tigers a great chance to take out some past frustration. Woodbine is 0-5 against Fremont-Mills since 2011. The last three meetings they’ve been outscored on average 60.3-4.7.
