(Des Moines) The National Weather Service in Des Moines says strong to severe thunderstorms are possible today in portions of the southwest, central, and eastern Iowa.
Forecasters expect storms to develop by mid-afternoon and track east into the evening hours. Some storms have the potential to become strong to severe, with the threat lingering into the nighttime hours.
The National Weather Service says potential threats include; large hail one inch in diameter, strong gusty winds above 60-miles per hour, and a few tornadoes cannot be ruled out.
Most of southwest Iowa is under a general risk for thunderstorms, portions of central and southern Iowa are under a marginal risk, and most of eastern Iowa falls under the slight risk category.
