(Wiota) Two people were injured in a two-vehicle accident near Wiota this morning.
Iowa State Patrol Trooper Shelby McCreedy told KSOM/KS95 Radio that 38-year-old Lora Kanning and 61-year-old Mitch Holmes, both of Anita, were transported to Cass County Memorial Hospital by Cass County EMS and Anita Rescue with non-life threatening injuries.
McCreedy said both vehicles were traveling westbound on Highway 83. Kanning was driving a 2011 GMC Acadia and Holmes was driving a 2007 Jeep Wrangler.
“Both vehicles were approaching the intersection of 665th Street when Holmes stopped for a vehicle that was turning south off of Highway 83 onto the gravel road. Kanning was unable to see Holmes stopped in the roadway and struck him in the rear of the vehicle, causing his vehicle to enter the north ditch where he rolled multiple times.”
Kannin was cited for Failure to Stop in Assured Clear Distance. Holmes was cited for Failure to Wear a Seatbelt.
Mitch Holmes is the Cass County Veterans Affairs Director and Lora Kanning is a Naturalist with Cass County Conservation. Both were traveling in their private vehicles.
The accident remains under investigation.
