(Des Moines) The National Weather Service released its’ winter outlook this week, and Jeff Zogg with the National Weather Service in Des Moines says for Iowa there appear to be equal chances for precipitation and temperatures.
Zogg says a La Nina is in effect and is expected to continue throughout the winter.

National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration predict two-thirds of the United States should experience a warmer than normal winter Forecasters predict only Washington, northern Idaho, Montana, the Dakotas, and northwestern Minnesota, will get colder than normal winter.
The forecast for precipitation shows the entire south from southern California to North Carolina getting a dry winter. And more precipitation for the northern states of Oregon and Washington to Michigan and dipping down to Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, and other parts of the Ohio Valley. The rest of the nation will likely be closer to normal.
