Mass of Christian Burial for 87 year old Edwin Schaben of Harlan, formerly of Panama, will be Saturday, October 17th at 11:00 AM at the St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Harlan. Visitation will be Saturday, October 17th from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the church. Burial will be at the St. Peter and Paul Catholic Cemetery. The Pauley Jones Funeral Home in Harlan is in charge of arrangements.
Edwin, son of Anton and Edith (Kobold) Schaben was born on April 28, 1933 in Defiance, Iowa. Edwin went to school in Defiance at St. Paul’s and graduated in 1951. Edwin married his wife Rita on January 8, 1953 in Portsmouth, Iowa. He served in the Army in 1954 and was discharged in 1956. Edwin moved to Panama in 1956 and lived there for 48 years when he and his wife Rita moved to Harlan.
Edwin was a Sales Rep for Moorman’s Feed Company for 30 years. He also did sales for Shelby County Monument Company in Harlan, Iowa. He enjoyed coaching Little League Baseball, and was involved in Community Club. Edwin enjoyed playing cards with many of his friends.
Edwin passed away on Wednesday, October 14, 2020 at Elm Crest Retirement Community in Harlan, Iowa, attaining the age of 87 years, 5 months and 16 days. He was preceded in death by his parents Anton and Edith (Kobold) Schaben; step-mother Lucille Schaben; his wife Rita Schaben and their son Thomas Schaben; and brothers Bob Schaben, Tony Jr. Schaben and Mel Schaben. He is survived by his children; Deborah and her husband Pat Groth of Harlan, Iowa; Larry and his wife Kathy Schaben of Omaha, Nebraska; Connie Schaben of Omaha, Nebraska; Gary and his wife Jackie Schaben of Portsmouth, Iowa; 4 grandchildren; Brooke and her husband Quinn Wilson, Taylor Schaben, Logan Schaben, Morgan Schaben; great grandchild Sage Wilson; siblings Ruth Weis of Defiance, Iowa; Paul and wife Jane Schaben of Carroll, Iowa; Bernard Schaben and wife Ann of Montgomery, Texas; Dan and his wife Georgene Schaben of Harlan; Henry and his wife Colleen Schaben of Omaha, Nebraska; Mary Campbell of Denison, Iowa; Mike and his wife Jeannie Schaben of Defiance, Iowa; Rose and her husband Richard Ditter of Florida; sister-in-law Cindy Schaben of Los Angeles, California. Along with many other nieces, nephews, family and friends.
