(Des Moines) The National Weather Service issued a Red Flag Warning for northwest and portions of southwest Iowa for strong winds and dry conditions from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. today. Harrison, Shelby, Pottawattamie, Cass, Audubon, Guthrie, Carroll, and Crawford counties are included in the Warning.
Northwest winds of 20-to30 miles per hour with gusts up to 45 miles per hour could cause any fire that starts this afternoon to spread out of control.
A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring now or will shortly. A combination of strong winds, low relative humidity, and warm temperatures can contribute to extreme fire behavior.
