(Audubon) There will be no sanctioned Trick-or-Treating in Audubon this year.
Mayor Barb Jacobsen made the proclamation at Monday’s City Council Meeting. “The city is not sanctioning a Halloween Trick-or-Treat night. Recommendations from our Public Health Department and the Iowa Department of Public Health are that it shouldn’t be done so we’ll follow those guidelines.”
She admits it was a difficult decision to make. “Kind of. It’s like we are taking the fun out of being a kid away. So I wish we didn’t have to do it, but our numbers are going up in Iowa and Audubon County so I think it’s the best decision for us.”
Elsewhere at Monday’s council meeting they reviewed plans for the city wide clean up later this week. “If they want an appliance picked up they have to call the clerk’s office and pay for it and get a sticker to put on so we know it’s paid for. I’m uncertain how much we’ll have. We haven’t done it in years so we might have tons, but since we haven’t done it in so long people might not know what’s going on. We’ll see how it goes.”
Those that get their garbage picked up on Monday will have their clean up day on Thursday, October 15th. Tuesday trash pick up days will have clean up on Friday, October 16th. If you have questions on what items can be picked up you can contact the city clerk’s office at 712-563-3269.
