(Atlantic) The Cass County Board of Supervisors received a quarterly report from Cass County Conservation Director Micah Lee at their meeting this morning.
Micah Lee said the old pit toilets at Cold Springs Park have been taken out and they graded and seeded the area.
He said they also did some electrical work on the shelter and their goal in the future is to put a new roof and some new windows on the shelter. Lee said the road in Cold Springs Park was paved at the end of September.
The Supervisors approved a resolution accepting the completion of the project and making a payment on the project. The contract was awarded to Blacktop Service Company. The final price is set at $113,751.10. That payment shall be 50% from the conservation Special Resource Enhancement Fund and 50% from the Local Option Sales Tax Fund.
Micah Lee said they continue to remove brush along the T-Bone Trail and they had to do some deck replacement on a couple of bridges. They did some plumbing work and repairs to the caretaker’s house at the Hitchcock House, as well as foundation repairs to the Hitchcock House itself. Otherwise, the Conservation Department has been doing a lot of general maintenance including clearing brush, planting trees and spraying for noxious weeds.
In other news, Cass County Engineer Trent Wolken told the Supervisors that the speed limit signs have been placed on 620th, Lansing and Jasper and the stop sign has been put in at Lansing and 595th. Wolken also noted that there will be a meeting this Friday with the Iowa County Engineer’s Association Exec. Board and one topic they will discuss is the DOT’s plans to close bridges along I-80. The DOT has offered an incentive to Cass County to close the roadway at 570th Street at the I-80 underpass. The Supervisors have taken no action to close the roadway.
