(Atlantic) The Atlantic City Council voted down a proposal on Wednesday that would have limited the number of times a group could close down a street for a special event.
The Community Protection Committee met last month and discussed the issue noting multiple requests within a short period of time for the same street closures in the City. The committee recommended the City Council adopt a policy granting street closures no more than twice a year. The proposal exempts the Atlantic Chamber of Commerce events.
Atlantic City Councilman Pat McCurdy strongly disagreed, stating these events bring people to the community.
“I disagree,” said McCurdy. “Anything that brings business to town, and it makes sense, I support it. I think we should deal with each case individually.”
The City Council turned down the recommendation by a 5-1 vote.
