(Exira) Exira-EHK finishes the regular season with a contest against Boyer Valley on Friday night.
Spartan coach Tom Petersen weighs in on the contest, “They have athletes. Their quarterback is 6’5″ and throws an exceptional ball. He’s been doing it for quite a few years so that’s going to be our primary concern.” Petersen says Jesse Soma is a speedy offensive weapon and there are a number of capable wide receivers.
The Spartans will once again be without Tyler Kingery and Dane Paulsen. Each are out for different reasons after the team found out during the middle of the week last week that they wouldn’t be able to play. Several young players will get a shot to step in. “Aiden Flathers, Jackson Radcliff, Cash Emgarten, and Eric Wilson. They all are freshmen that saw time last week. Just having the opportunity to have more reps in practice. They are learning.” Petersen admits they aren’t quite ready for the varsity action, however, “I wouldn’t put these kids out there if I didn’t believe in them.”
No matter who is on the field and in what position, Exira-EHK wants to put a better foot forward than they did last week in a 61-12 homecoming loss to Ar-We-Va. “I didn’t have my kids ready to play mentally and that was pretty obvious with the way that we played. I’m still trying to figure out how to get these kids excited to play with that passion you have to have.”
Exira-EHK goes into the matchup at 0-5. Boyer Valley is 1-5. Their only win came in their season opener against Glidden-Ralston.
