Mildred Irene Herron, the daughter of Guy Richard and Elizabeth W. (Anderson) Herron, was born October 21, 1921, at her parents’ home in Guthrie County, Iowa, and died October 5, 2020, at the Friendship Home in Audubon, Iowa, at the age of 98 years, 11 months, and 15 days.
Mildred was baptized April 2, 1922 and confirmed April 14, 1935 at the Trinity Lutheran Church near Coon Rapids, Iowa. She attended rural school Union Township #6 in Carroll County, Iowa.
Mildred helped operate the family farm in Carroll County as well as the farm they later purchased in Guthrie County in 1954. She raised chickens and grew all types of vegetables and canned the produce. Mildred also worked in the turkey factory in Carroll for a few years, then sorted corn at Garst and Thomas. In 1960, she was employed as an aid at the Friendship Home.
She and her sister, Louise, started their own cleaning company and cleaned many local family homes and several businesses, including Kessler Funeral Home. They retired in 2001.
Mildred was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Audubon.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Louise P. Herron; and her brother, Howard Herron.
Survivors include her sister in law, Eunice Herron of Coon Rapids, Iowa, as well as nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 7, 2020 at 10:30 A.M. at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Audubon with Pastor Gordon Buchholz officiating. There will be a visitation on Tuesday, October 6, 2020 from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Audubon. Interment will be in the Willow Township Cemetery near Coon Rapids, Iowa. Honorary bearers will be Kaye Nawatzke, Shelly Weatherby, Curt Weatherby, The Girls at Landsmans Bank, Penny LaFoy. Casket bearers will be Mark Madison, Mike Sheeder, John Baker and Connie R. Faga. The Kessler Funeral Home in Audubon is in charge of her arrangements.
