(Oakland) A pair of evenly matched teams will square off in a game that will air on KSOM Friday. 6-1 SW Valley pays 5-1 Riverside a visit during Week 7 in what figures to be a very tight contest.
In the case of both teams, they’re only loss of the season has been to St. Albert. Since SW Valley faced the Falcons they’ve responded with a 19-14 win at Tri-Center in Week 5 and a 51-14 victory over Sidney last week. Head coach Anthony Donahoo says, “We took a tough loss to St. Albert and I think that kind of opened our eyes on what we need to work on. We came back and had a great game against Tri-Center and put another one up against Sidney. We are going to have to play at the same level of intensity against Riverside.”
Both teams beat Tri-Center by exactly five points. SW Valley beat Sidney by 37 and Riverside topped the Cowboys by 43. Their other common opponent is Red Oak which Riverside beat 45-0 and SW Valley beat 46-7. They both pride themselves on their play in the trenches. “Coach Darrell Frain since he’s gotten there has done a fantastic job of making that program one that’s looking for the playoffs each year, that’s hungry. They do exactly what we like to do which is control the line of scrimmage. They have some hogs up front that really push the ball. Eddie Vlcek is a terror at defensive end on film.”
Another similarity between these teams is having a very effective, multi-year starter at quarterback. For Riverside it’s Austin Kremkoski and for SW Valley that’s Brendan Knapp. “He sees the field so much better now.” Donahoo says, “The kid plays like he’s 6’2 and 210 pounds. He’s very, very tough to bring down. His development of seeing the field and knowing when to get the ball out of his hands has really helped him this year.”
Riverside averages 34.3 point per game and allows 10.8, SW Valley averages 26.7 points and allows 14.5.
