(Anita) Thursday’s volleyball win over Coon Rapids-Bayard was big on many levels for CAM. The Cougars beat a ranked opponent, secured the Rolling Valley Conference championship, and found the resolve to erase a 2-0 deficit.
CAM prevailed 18-25, 23-25, 25-21, 25-17, 15-12. The victory moves them to 17-3 overall and 7-1 in the Rolling Valley Conference. Their lone league loss was to Boyer Valley, which is 5-2 in the RVC standings. CAM has the head-to-head advantage over both Glidden-Ralston (6-1) and Coon Rapids-Bayard (5-1). The Wildcats and the Crusaders are scheduled to play next week so one of those teams will end up with a second conference loss.
“It feels really good,” says coach Jenna Meiers. “By the end of game five my heart rate was pretty high. I was pretty excited. They just stayed calm and stayed attacking.”
Taylor Bower led the team with 33 assists on Thursday. Eva Steffensen posted 12 kills while Mallory Behnken had 11 kills and three blocks. Bree Bower had 15 digs, followed by Marissa Spieker and Reese Snyder each with 12.
CAM had never won the Rolling Valley Conference. Their last volleyball conference title came in 2006 as a member of the Rolling Hills Conference.
