(Atlantic) Atlantic carries a four-game winning into Friday’s game at Shenandoah with back-to-back shutouts over Clarinda and Des Moines, Christian.
Atlantic Head Coach Mike McDermott notices the excitement surrounding the football team, but admits there is a lot of work yet to be done to sharpen the play on offense, defense, and special teams.
Coach McDermott gives the Shenandoah coaching staff credit for putting in an offense that gives them a great chance to win each week.
Morgan Cotton leads the Mustangs in rushing with 292 yards on 91 carries, and the second leading receiver with 222-yards behind Blake Herold’s 18 catches for 254 yards. But, McDermott says it all starts with Mustang’s quarterback Zayne Zwickel who is 48-103 throwing the football for 775 yards.
Coach McDermott says the Mustangs play a three-man defensive front and sometimes switch to a four down linemen.
Atlantic and Shenandoah have their share of takeaways. The Mustangs have recovered seven fumbles and intercepted 10 passes this season. The Trojans have a league-leading 12 interceptions and three fumble recoveries.
