KSOM was scheduled to broadcast AHSTW vs Riverside on Friday, but that game has been cancelled. Riverside is looking for a replacement opponent. All AHSTW activities have been suspended through October 4th.
(Avoca) Doug Langer has retired from his PA duties at AHSTW, but he’s still our guest on the “Man on the Mic” series for Week 6. He’s been heard over the loud speakers in Avoca for more than twenty years.
Langer’s been around the Viking football program his whole life including as a player on their first undefeated team. After his neighbor got out of of being the Public Address announcer Langer stepped in. This season, given his age and the coronavirus concerns, he decided it was time to step away. Langer enjoyed getting to know all of the new kids every year. “If you don’t go to the games you kind of lose touch with the people. It’s nice to see some new kids that you never knew before.”
Langer quickly found a unique way to deal with any complaints that might come his way. “You make a mistake on somebody’s grandson you’re going to hear about it. Whenever I did that I’d just offer them the microphone and usually that was the end of it.”
The full interview with Langer would have aired during halftime of KSOM’s AHSTW vs Riverside broadcast on Friday. Instead, it can be heard below:
