(Des Moines) Des Moines, Christian returns to the gridiron this Friday night after COVID-19 suspended their season for two weeks. The Lions are (2-0), with a 29-24 win over Pella Christian in the opener, and a 36-0 shut out over Chariton in Week Two.
Head Coach Matt Waring and his squad are ready to get back after it.
Coach Waring says 26-players were quarantined most of them through contact tracing.
This team appears to be picking up where they left off one year ago. The Lions went 8-1 during the regular season before losing to Greene County in the first round of the playoffs.
Quarterback Jaxon Withers returns to the field after sitting out last year due to an injury suffered in wrestling. Josh Shank is the Lion’s leading ball carrier, and Andrew Johnson, a former Quarterback, is now at wide receiver.
Waring is preparing his team for a tough Trojans rushing attack.
Bodie Johnson and Korey Parrott lead the Trojans in rushing for a combined 435-yards, and the quarterback duo of Caden Andersen and Garrett McLaren have combined for 492 yards passing. Andersen is 22/36 for 323 yards and one touchdown. McLaren is 19/27 for 169 yards and one touchdown.
The game starts at 7:00 p.m. with the broadcast on 95.7 FM and KS957.com. The pre-game starts at 6:00 p.m.
