(Griswold) Despite a loss, Griswold football coach Chase Wallace feels his team is coming off of their best performance of the season in Week 3. The Tigers travel to Stanton Friday night.
The toughest stretch of Griswold’s schedule is likely in the rear view mirror after being tasked with CAM, Fremont-Mills, and Lenox in consecutive weeks. Coach Wallace saw some good things especially through the air. “The Lenox score of 62-14 could have been a lot better game. I felt that we played our best game of the season. We had it down to their one yard line and fumbled. In the first quarter we had four or five false starts and that’s tough to overcome. I was encouraged by the pass game. Lane had a very efficient night.”
Lane Mueller returned from injury to complete 6/8 passes for 111 yards and two scores. Mueller brings another playmaker to the field and much more. “The team energy, you can see the difference when he is there. He’s one of the main vocal leaders on our team. I was so impressed with how well he threw the ball last week coming off of that injury. He had some shoulder problems, but it didn’t seem to bother him. Now we have to work more on getting him involved in the run game to make it more of a dual threat.”
The team is shaking some things up on defense to make the most of their speed. “We’re moving some guys around to try and get more speed at the second level and get a quicker rush on the outside.”
Coach Wallace has been impressed by the way his team has grasped the changes as they prepare to take on a balanced Stanton attack. The Vikings are 2-1 on the season with wins over Bedford and East Union along with a loss to East Mills.
