(Oakland) Riverside takes a 7-3 volleyball record into their weekend tournament at Griswold.
The Lady Dawgs polished off Audubon in a sweep on Thursday night, winning by scores for 25-22, 25-19, and 25-19. Kenna Ford directed the offense with 24 assists and she also posted 9 digs. Veronica Andrusyshyn (10 kills) and Ella Hensley (7 kills) were the leaders at the net. Coach Brooke Flathers says their goals they had throughout the week were seen on the court. “Veronica and Ella did a great job in the front row. It was a good night for them.”
Perhaps the most impressive stats though came on defense. Ari McGlade had 22 digs and Carly Henderson had 13 digs. “Our defense was stellar last night. As a team we had 64 digs. Ari McGlade is playing in the libero spot for us right now and she had a really great night defensively.”
Coming up next is the Griswold Tournament. Denison-Schleswig, SW Valley, and ACGC are in Griswold’s pool. “Work, work, finish up, and compete. That’s our goal. We talk to the girls everyday. If you show up and compete then you did your job.”
Three players have 40 kills or more on the season. Veronica Andrusyshyn is the team leader with 48, Izzy Bluml has 44, and Ella Hensley has 40. Kenna Ford’s 158 assists are second most in the Western Iowa Conference. Ari McGlade has a team best 68 digs followed by Carly Henderson with 43 and Kenna Ford with 36.
