(Council Bluffs) Two children suffered burns in a house fire in Council Bluffs on Friday night.
Council Bluffs Fire Fighters responded to the fire at 7:28 p.m. Fire Chief Justin James, in a Facebook post, said while en route, they were notified that two children were trapped in the burning home. The Chief says heavy smoke could be seen from their destination. When they arrived, firefighters immediately went into a blitz attack; firefighters deployed a ladder to the second story, entered the building, and rescued the two children. They were both transported to a local hospital. One child was airlifted to the University of Iowa Children’s Hospital on Saturday morning.
Chief James posted the following statement on the Council Bluffs Fire Departments Facebook page:
“In the end, this harmony was executed perfectly. It was as good as it can get considering the terrible circumstances,” stated Chief James. “It was swift and compelling from start to finish. I often say that it doesn’t matter how many certificates or diplomas we have. It doesn’t matter how many awards or accolades. We are here to SERVE, and it only matters how good we are in the street. Last night you all were as good as it gets. You gave a second chance to the victims with seconds to spare.
“For those of you who made the call, your hard work paid off. You couldn’t have performed any better in the street. Whatever the outcome, know that I couldn’t be more proud to serve with you.
“To the department as a whole, your constant dedication has pushed us all forward and made us all the better for it. Your willingness to always go above and beyond in every aspect of our service has sharpened the entire department. All of your constant efforts to always push forward have paid off. So for that, I say thank you. I am humbled to be part of the CBFD.”
