Lorraine JoAnn Bintner, the daughter of Nels C. and Anna (Lauridsen) Nelson, was born January 8, 1933, on her parents’ farm west of Exira, Iowa and died August 16, 2020, at the Exira Care Center in Exira, Iowa at the age of 87 years, 7 months, and 8 days.
Lorraine was baptized at the Hamlin Lutheran Church in Hamlin, Iowa and confirmed at the Elk Horn Lutheran Church in Elk Horn, Iowa. She attended rural school west of Exira and graduated from the Exira High School with the Class of 1951.
On June 21, 1951, she was united in marriage to Arnold J. Bintner at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Exira. While Arnold was serving in the United States Army, Lorraine was employed at the Uptown Café and the local grocery store in Exira. When Arnold returned from his tour of duty they were blessed with 6 children: Tim, Tamara, Vicki, Tom, Mitch, and Marty. She helped Arnold on the farm and raised their family. In 1959, they purchased a farm West of Exira and she continued to help on the farm and was employed for Garst and Thomas Pioneer in Coon Rapids, Iowa. In 1975, she started working for the Exira Community School District as a school bus driver and continued to work there for 19 years until she retired.
Lorraine was a member of the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Exira and served on the Altar & Rosary Society for many years. She was involved in several neighbor card clubs, the Merry Meter’s Club, and the Audubon County Campers. Lorraine and Arnold loved to travel and did extensive traveling in the United States and foreign countries including Germany to visit their sons Tim and Mitch while they were there working. She loved to spend time with her 19 grandchildren and enjoyed getting to play cards with them. But most of all she cherished the time when all the family would be able to get together at home.
She is preceded in death by her infant daughter, Tamara Bintner; her parents; her daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Bintner; her sister, Nioma and husband Alford Clausen; and her mother-in-law and father-in-law, Joseph and Tressa Bintner.
Survivors include her husband, Arnold J. Bintner of Exira, Iowa; her children, Tim Bintner of Castle Rock, Colorado, Vicki and husband Jamie Brehmer of Lyons, Nebraska, Tom and wife Paula Bintner of Ankeny, Iowa, Mitch and wife Becky Bintner of Castle Rock, and Marty and wife Lila Bintner of Brighton, Colorado; 19 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; her sister-in-law, Ramona Johnson of Kissimmee, Florida; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
There will be an open visitation held on Wednesday, August 19, 2020, from 1:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at the Kessler Funeral Home in Exira. The family may not be present during the open visitation. The will be a private family Mass of the Christian Burial held at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Exira with Father David Nkrumah officiating. Inurnment will be in the Holy Trinity Catholic Cemetery in Exira at a later date. The family request that mask be worn during the open visitation and the Mass of the Christian Burial. Memorials are preferred to the family for a later designation.
